Identifying the identity of frost-covered shelves of 2D barcoded tubes removed from low temperature storage has traditionally been a time-consuming and error-prone procedure. Utilizing proprietary Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging technology, the Ri-Track Mirage can reliably read 2D barcodes on ice-covered racks and racks removed directly from liquid nitrogen storage in vapor phase. The need to warm your rack to thaw it, which may degrade thermally sensitive samples, is eradicated in order to determine the identity of your sample rack.
Extensive testing has demonstrated that Ri-Track RFID technology can withstand immersion and retrieval from vapor phase liquid nitrogen over 10,000 times without losing any stored data or exhibiting physical degradation. Ri-Track is therefore appropriate for all forms of cryogenic long-term sample storage that can be tracked.
The Ri-Track Mirage 2D barcoded tube full rack scanner from Ziath, an Azenta Life Sciences firm, revolutionizes cryogenic sample handling.
Ri-Track tags are durable and will continue to function for the lifetime of your racking, reducing your total cost of ownership and maximizing your return on investment. Fortunately, the Ri-Track system is compatible with standard laboratory consumables. There is no need to purchase costly, specialized stands. Simply insert a Ri-Track tag into an existing SBS-format rack using a tag insertion tool that is simple to use. Ri-Track markings are compatible with virtually all molded SBS-format tube racks.
Ri-Track data is initially committed to the tag in a matter of seconds using a Ziath Mirage camera-based rack reader equipped with a Ri-Track antenna module, which is also capable of retrieving data from the tag. After this initial data storage, the Android or Apple DP5 Ri-Track App on an NFC-enabled smartphone will be able to read the tag information and display the data, making it simple to identify any individual tube in the chilled rack along with its location and complete identity.
Reading cryogenic racks is now as straightforward as removing a rack from the freezer and presenting it to your smartphone in order to view the available tubes in that rack. This innovative technological development eliminates the need to transport refrigerated racks back to the laboratory for analysis. Using the Pick List function of the App, tubes from multiple racks can be marked off in front of the freezer, saving technician time once more.
