BRILEY BRINK, STUDENT OF VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY, AWARDED NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP 2023

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health USA Inc. have given a scholarship to senior Veterinary Technology student Briley Brink of Vincennes, Indiana.

Brink is one of just 20 students in the country to earn the $2,500 grant and the only student from Kentucky. The fellowship is part of the Tuition for Technicians (T4T) program sponsored by NAVTA and Boehringer Ingelheim.

With receiving this scholarship, some of my financial concerns have been alleviated, allowing me to concentrate on my studies, as stated by Brink.

To qualify for a scholarship, students were required to complete the following requirements:

Must be enrolled full-time in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology/nursing program (on-campus or distance learning) and have completed at least one year of program requirements.

• Must provide transcripts with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0;
• Must send a document verifying current full-time enrolment;
• Must submit up to three endorsement letters;
• Must be a NAVTA Student Member;
• Required to submit a 500-word essay on one of the following topics:
• Where do you envision the veterinary technology/nursing profession in five to ten years?
• How will you contribute to the profession of veterinary technology/nursing?
• What are your professional goals?
• NAVTA members and Boehringer Ingelheim representatives evaluated each application and decided the final list of awardees.

Brink is employed at the Lexington MedVet emergency room. She completed her associate’s degree in veterinary technology last year and will receive her bachelor’s in May. She stated that her ambition is to teach at MSU in the future.

Brink stated, “Dr. (Amy) Staton has been a major source of inspiration for me.” “As her teaching assistant during the previous fall semester, I adored assisting first-year vet tech students in learning fundamental skills that would serve them throughout their careers.”

I could not have reached this point in my studies without the assistance and direction of the MSU vet tech teachers.
